Provincial Capital: Da Nang City. Districts: Hoa Vang, Hoang Sa.
Economic potentialities: service industry, marine products, and
agriculture. Danang City is located in Central Vietnam; Thua
Thien Hue surrounds it at the north border and Quang Nam at the
south border.
The main ethnic groups to populate this area are
the Kinh, Xo Dang, Co Tu, Co, and Gie Trieng. The tropical
monsoon climate is divided into two seasons: the rainy and dry
seasons. The average temperature is 25.6 C. The city of Danang
with its coastal location in Central Vietnam is endowed with
enormous tourist potential owing to the advantages of geography
climate history economy and culture. In the master plan for
tourist development of the country the regions of Danang Hue and
Quang Nam have been identified as one of the three core tourist
areas of Vietnam. The geographical features of Danang are
diverse: plains mountains sea and rivers. There is an offshore
island. Nearby are the Marble Mountains the Hai Van Pass Son Tra
peninsula and Ba Na resort area. Tourists can visit the Museum
of Cham Sculpture the Museum of the Revolution and the Museum of
President Ho Chi Minh. Danang is also famous for beautiful
beaches. Among these are Nam O Xuan Thieu (Red beach) Bac My An
My Khe Thanh Binh and Non Nuoc. Surfing contests and other water
sports can be organized here. Located in a region of such
significant tourist potential the city of Danang will become a
focal point for tourists visiting surrounding areas. Within a
radius of l00km from the center of Danang tourists can see
historical monuments and relics carrying the imprint of
Vietnamese Champ Chinese Japanese and French cultures. - 100km
to the north of Danang is the centuries-old capital of Hue. The
old Citadel of Hue with its majestic of palaces and the nearby
tombs pagodas and temples make Hue unique. UNESCO has recognized
it as a place of World Cultural Heritage. - 70km away from the
city to the southwest is the Holy land of My Son a complex of
Champ architecture. Together with the old Cham capital Tra Kieu
marked the pinnacle of the construction arts of the old Champ
kingdom, which ruled Central Vietnam for 9 centuries.

NGU HANH
SON MOUNTAINS
From the center of Danang a short of Km to
the southeast brings US to the Marble Mountains. Called Ngu Hanh
Son they are a well-known feature of the landscape of Danang and
of Central Vietnam. One legend has it that the sea dragon came
onto the shore and laid an egg. After one thousand days and
nights the egg hatched and out stepped a beautiful young lady.
The broken shell fragments grew larger until they were
transformed into five separate mounts that were named after each
of the five essential elements constituting the universe by a
king of the Nguyen Dynasty. They are: water wood soil metal and
fire. Here tourists can enter pagodas such as Tam Thai built in
1825 Tu Tam and Linh Ung Phu Dong Tower mysterious caves of
Huyen Thong and Tang Chon. These five mounts are sited adjacent
to Non Nuoc Beach admits the green casuarinas forest and fresh
air. The beautiful natural landforms are decorated with Non Nuoc
skilled carving centuries old. Along the foot of the mountains
stone products are sold especially along the main road leading
to Water mount where there is famous Huyen Thong cave.

BA NA -
AN IDEAL RESORT
Ba Na 28km to the west of Danang belongs to
Truong Son range. It is located in the territory of Hoa Vang
district. The French discovered Ba Na last century and
constructed buildings hotels. Sport grounds. Due to wars and the
damages of time these have been broken down and deserted. Ba Na
is 1482m above sea level.
However it is surprising to find at
its summit a flat terrace or small plateau. In the sultry summer
heat when the temperature of the coastal provinces often reaches
32C at Ba Na it is about 17 C to 20 C The highest temperature is
22 C to 25 C in the daytime and falls to 15 C at nighttime. It
is similar to the average temperature in the North during
winter. The advantages of Ba Na are its diverse ecosystem
nearness to the sea and mild climate. At present the Danang City
Government is restoring the route from Danang to Ba Na. When it
is completed with a goal of developing Ba Na to be a diverse
economic zone. The land is suitable for the cultivation of
ornamental plants and herbs for traditional medicine
construction of centers for research universal observation and a
potential zone for tourism and services of Danang City in the
future. The route from Danang to Ba Na is going to be completed
in August 1998. The People's Committee of Danang City offers
favorable conditions for foreign and domestic investors to enter
into investment and carry out the projects on developing economy
and tourism of Ba Na Resort effectively. Classification 4 star
hotels, 3 star hotels, 2 star hotels, and mini hotels 2-5 hotels
built 1998-2000.

THE
PENINSULA OF SON TRA
12km away from the city to the northeast is
Son Tra peninsula. It looks like a mushroom with its peak 693m
above the sea level.
The cap of the mushroom is Son Tra mountain
and its body is the white sand beach, which affords an ideal
area for bathing playing sports fishing and swimming. Son Tra
peninsula is classified by the Central Government as National
Park. This National Park not only functions to preserve wild
life. It also supplies a cool clean source of water for the
locality. Moreover the peninsula is a natural screen to protect
Danang from the storms coming from the sea. In summertime from
the cool windy top of the mountain one can look down at the city
lying along the banks of brilliant Han River below. It is an
enjoyable and peaceful vista.

THE
MUSEUM OF CHAM SCULPTURE
The building of The Museum of Cham Sculpture
(Cham Museum) began in 1915. This is the only museum dedicated
to preserving the unique Champ sculptural heritage in South East
Asia. There are about 300 items of sculpture exhibited here.
Most of them are original works carved in sandstone. Some items
are terracotta. Items exhibited include altars statues and
decorations from Cham towers and palaces. The statues include
the Gods: Siva, Vishnu, Brahma, as well as, the brahmanists
Buddha’s dancers and musicians elephants lions the holy cow, -
Nan din and the holy bird Garuda. These date from the 7th
century to the 1 5th century. The Cham sculpture museum is
located alongside Han river, comprising nearly 300 sandstone
statutes up to ten centuries ago. Vietnam's colorful history and
culture will appear in sight.

HAI VAN
PASS
Whenever one goes through Hai Van Pass, two
feelings are experienced: amazement when passing through the
clouds and fear when seeing the dangerous bends of the road. Hai
Van Pass is located 1,500 m above sea level. Its name means
"Pass of the Ocean Clouds," since the peak of the mountain is in
the clouds while its foot is close to the sea. Hai Van is
considered as the biggest frontier post in Vietnam. The name "De
Nhat Hung Quan," meaning the most colossal frontier post, is
engraved on an incense burner in Thai Temple. From the top of
Hai Van Pass, one can admire Lang Co Beach to the north and
Danang to the south. Endless forests are west of Hai Van Pass
and the ocean, east. Hai Van Pass is a real challenge for
drivers as well as for adventurers. The government had approved
a project to build a tunnel through Hai Van Pass. The 8-km
tunnel would facilitate the access to the area for visitors.

NON NUOC
BEACH (China beach):
Non Nuoc Beach runs for 5 km against the
Marble Mountains, in Da Nang. It is bounded by Dien Ngoc Sea to
the south and Da Nang to the north. The beach gently slopes
towards the calm, clear, blue sea; the clarity of the water
attracts people who come to bathe and enjoy the seafood. Non
Nuoc Beach is famous for its seaweed, which reaches exportation
standards. Many five-star hotels were built in Non Nuoc to
accommodate the domestic and foreign tourists in the area.

LINH UNG
PAGODA
Situated in Hoa Hai commune, Hoa Vang
district, Linh Ung Pagoda is approximately 8 km from the center
of Da Nang. Linh Ung Pagoda is 100 meters away from Tam Thai
Pagoda, overlooking the South China Sea. Also in the same area
is Tang Chon cave. The pagoda was built during the 18th century.
It was later conferred the name Ngu Che Ung Chon Tu during Minh
Mang’s reign. The name was changed to Linh Ung Pagoda in the 3rd
year of Thanh Thai’s reign. The pagoda, considered as part of
the beautiful landscapes in Da Nang, was renovated many times.
Precious documents about the history of the pagoda are safely
kept in the pagoda.
